Biography

I'm Alissa Volbeda, an artist and designer born and raised in West Michigan, and the founder of Wonder Walnut Design Studio. My creative path started early, shaped by a love for painting, photography, and hands-on making. After a decade of working in design and photography, I returned to painting with a renewed focus, working primarily in watercolor and acrylics.

In recent years, I’ve begun sharing my personal artwork more publicly, including a piece selected as a Top 20 Finalist in the 2025 Tulip Time First Bloem Art Competition.

Artist’s Statement

I create art inspired by everyday moments, personal memories, and the places that shape us. Working in watercolor and acrylic, I’m drawn to the balance between softness and strength. I’m guided by the words of my late teacher, Carol Rickey, who believed in creating with joy, meaning, and generosity. That spirit continues to shape my work.
